COVID Update - Free National Virtual Clubs

The Youth Sport Trust have taken the step to deliver a free virtual after school club as part of a national response to the second lockdown. The 30-minute club will take place at 5pm each weekday and be led by a different member of the YST's athlete mentor network. The first one aired on Thursday with world no.1 female inline skater and 10-time British Champion Jenna Downing. The After School Sport Club will then run for five weeks starting tonight Monday 16th November until December 18 and children and young people can take part live by visiting our YouTube channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/YouthSportTrust

Clubs

We run a variety of clubs to extend the learning of our pupils at Our Lady of Fatima Primary School. These are delivered by a combination of our teachers and fully qualified coaching staff.

Each term children are given the opportunity to extend their learning through our After School Clubs. They are asked to return a signed letter to school in order to gain a place. Places are limited and are offered on a 'first come first served' basis.

We usually ask for a small contribution towards the cost of delivering the clubs. This may be to purchase specialist resource or help fund a coach/teacher to deliver the activity. We will always try to keep this cost to a minimum. Any money must be paid in advance of the club taking place.

Each after school club begins promptly at 3.35pm and finishes by 4:30pm, depending on the club. Please make arrangements for your child to be collected from the school reception area. The clubs are always extremely popular and enjoyed by all.

Fencing Club

During the year we hold a Fencing Club. This is a sport many of our pupils have never taken part in before and has resulted in a huge demand for it across all year groups.

Initially, the children familiarise themselves with the equipment and learn about the importance of safety when taking part in this type of physical activity. The learn the importance of balance, accuracy and patience.

The core School Games Values we look for in this club is:

Honesty - Always telling the truth, never cheating and admitting if they get things wrong

Self Belief - Being brave and taking on new challenges, being confident, tring new sports

Football Club

On of the more popular After School Clubs is Football. This is led by a trained coach and focuses on key skills, game tatics and the School Games Values

We offer it all year round to all year groups across the school. There is a competitive element to the club towards the end of the club but the emphasis is on fun no matter if they win or loose

The core School Games Values we look for in this club is:

Teamwork- Working with my team, not being selfish, letting everyone have a go, sharing the equipment and giving everyone a chance, showing team spirit and encouraging team mates

Determination - Never giving up on myself or my team, always trying my best no matter what, trying again if something goes wrong

Football Team

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School Football Team currently plays in the Birmingham Catholic Cup, the Shireland Cluster and the Harborne School League (local schools' seven a side).

They also take part in the annual Premier League School Football Competition, competing against local other schools. We are looking forward for the competitions to resume when possible.

Gymnastics Club

Throughout the year, many pupils enjoy learning new gymnastic skills at our After School Club. The children learn and practise how to be flexible, improve their core strength, balance using their upper and lower-body strength, increase power skills and improve their mental focus.

Mindfulness, Relaxation and Well-Being Club

Mindfulness colouring, relaxation and story-time classes are available as an after-school club - we are looking forward to restarting them after the current pandemic.

These therapeutic sessions run by Mrs Darkaoui take place in a relaxed environment, where the children are welcome to bring along a pair of slippers and a onesie to add to their calmness. Each session begins with circle-time followed by mindful colouring and relaxation activities; all sessions end with story-time.

Benefits:

- Improved Motor Skills

- Stimulate creativity

- Improve hand to eye coordination

- A therapeutic session allowing children to focus and be mindful

Sing and Play Club

The Sing and Play After School Club started several years ago with a group of budding and enthusiastic musicians. Since then many children have enjoyed learning how to play the ukulele.

The club happens throughout the year, after school, where the children learn how to play different chords, whilst singing too. They are so committed that there is just no stopping them. They work their way through the song book with great enthusiasm.

Well done to all the players and their talented teacher.

UK Maths Challenge Club

This club aims to meet the needs of more able Mathematicians.

Each year pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 have the opportunity to enter the UK Maths Challenge which takes place in the Spring Term.

The club runs after school on Mondays, challenging pupils to further develop their logic and thinking skills.
