PTA

Your children, your school, your PTA

The Parent Teacher Association has been running for many years. There is dedicated group of parents and staff who organise many social events at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School for the children and their families. As well as being great fun and a brilliant way to meet other families and socialize, the events also raise vital funds which enhance school life for your children.

We have a busy programme of events every year, so there is always something coming up for your children to look forward to. Our events include discos in the school hall and the church hall at Christmas, film nights, cake sales, sponsored skips and bounces, quiz nights, a Christmas market evening and our annual fete in July. At most of our events we offer food (BBQ hot dogs and burgers, samosas and sweet treats) and beverages for all tastes.

The money raised helps to equip the school with many resources, from which all the children benefit. Some of our recent donations include:

  • A defibrillator
  • 15 iPads and protective cases
  • Funding used to help purchase new computers for the suite
  • Outdoor play equipment for Reception class
  • Donations for the establishment and maintenance of Forest School
  • Sports equipment for KS2 playground
  • Funds for the building of raised beds for 'Health for Life' gardening group
  • Funds for the creation of a 50th Anniversary Garden and celebratory events for the 50th anniversary of the school
  • Costumes for the infant Nativity plays
  • Bibles across the school as well as the ten:ten resources

In addition to this, the PTA also contribute funds for each class to have a school trip, a class Christmas party, Christmas presents for each child, a pantomime in school and a Year 6 leavers’ party.

All our funding requests come either directly from the school or suggestions from PTA members and other parents. All funding requests are discussed at our regular PTA meetings and at the Annual General Meeting. We aim to raise approximately £5000 each year to support these requests.

Given the number of events we run, we are always looking for parents to help out with the PTA. We are grateful for any help that people can provide. It is not all about going to meetings (although any parents would be very welcome!); we always need volunteers to help run the events, whether it be helping to run a stall, buying raffle prizes, face painting, helping set up/take down stalls at the fete, promoting our events and getting local businesses to donate prizes.

The PTA committee meet in a very informal way. The meetings serve the purpose of discussing events planned for the children in a relaxed social environment. We meet to plan events at the Court Oak pub in Harborne - usually on a Tuesday or Thursday night, from 7.30pm. If you think you could help in some way, please speak to us at one of the PTA events, find a PTA member on the playgrounds at school, or check with the school office, who can put you in touch with one of us. We are aware that due to other commitments some parents are unable to commit to attending these meetings but are keen to offer help at some of our events. All offers of help however small, are greatly appreciated.

We are a friendly bunch who just want to make the experience at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School the best it can be for our children.
